Simleu Silvaniei was home to the worlds first Holocaust remembrance Olympiad. Politicians and noted officials as we as the local population attended the worlds first competition of its kind. Students from all over the entire country of Romania gathered to celebrate and award the winner of the competition.

This is all too relevent for this region; A place where these crimes occured. Voices still echo from Jewish community that existed there for hundreds of years. The Romanian government aknowledges these times and made Holocaust studies mandatory. This olympiad brings awareness even further and helps to educate about the horrific events of the past.

The event was covered by National Geographic, World Jewish Press.
